9/11 Music: The Radical Practical Buddhist

Last blog the Practical Buddhist promised to get permission to publish this song about 9/11 by Marty Schoen. Here it is: angry, powerful, prophetic. Marty composed it in the days after 9/11. Listen to the mp3. The beat is urgent and compelling and recalls that time exquisitely. The lyric will challenge anyone.

You should know that by day there is a "doctor" in front of Marty's name. He is a skilled healer working primarily with the poor, a secret agent in the best possible way.

Once Again...

So, we were supposed to imagine no hell, no religion
Don't hold your breath
Once again it's time to support the troops and
Mr. President Death
He want's help to tell it over and over 'till we're all seeing red

You think he's a holy man,
Livin' in a holy land, Oh, no!
Well, I've got bad news for you
Only a devil sells Us against Them
It's time you knew

So, we're supposed to imagine no greed, no hunger
Nothing worth going to War
But, once again there's plenty of daring young men
who think they're gonna even the score
And once they're all dead, they can't complain like a Red
Or warn the rest about what's in store

You think he's a holy man,
Livin' in a holy land, Oh, no!
Well, I've got bad news for you
Only a devil sells Us against Then
It's time you knew

From Sea to Shining Sea
Beneath Mountains of Majesty, Oh yeah!
We're only tall when they're on their knees
Risin' up, they're comin' for you and me

Now they want you to stop imagining anything,
Just shut up and save your breath
There's nothing you can do except spend like a fool
And go deeper into debt
Watch TV, stare at your PC
But nothing too far to the left
