Buddhists like it simple and honest. They like to live in now.
I have the sense that unlike Bieber or the Jonas Bros, manufactured for profit out of cute boys with middling talent, Jeremy might be the genuine article, or working toward it. He talks about letting go, living in the moment. And he sure grins a lot.
My brilliant friend Gordy emailed me about Lin in response to one of my blogs. Here's part of what he said:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Coo-coo-coo-choo, Jeremy-yee Lin! A grateful nation turns its eyes to you, whoa, whoa, whoa…”
I think he’s become a sort of global Rorschach ink blot. It seems that anyone who studies him for more than ten seconds ends up projecting some notion they have in their heads about themselves onto good ol’ Jeremy.
I don’t know from Jeremy Lin. But I’ve enjoyed listening to people on the radio describing what they’ve seen when they’ve watched Lin play basketball. And I wish him all the success and fun in the world, regardless of the content of his heart. It’s apparent that the fun he’s having is infectious.
And Lord knows we need the fun!
